The United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is providing an additional $7 million to support Rwanda’s response to the Marburg Viral Disease (MVD) outbreak. This funding, in partnership with the Rwandan Ministry of Health, will focus on key areas such as case management, contact tracing, and infection prevention.
With this new commitment, total U.S. emergency funding for the outbreak has reached over $8.35 million. The U.S. has also donated nearly 2,000 testing kits, supplied essential medical resources to frontline workers, and deployed medical experts to enhance disease detection and surveillance.
Under the effective leadership of the Ministry of Health, Rwanda has swiftly implemented measures to protect public health. This additional funding will further bolster the country’s preparedness and response efforts, contributing to global health security.
